A moving story, not a fixed schedule.
The Great Migration follows rainfall and fresh grazing across the Serengeti ecosystem. Its broad seasonal pattern can guide planning, but the herds do not travel on a calendar.
Early in the year, calving is often centered in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu. As conditions change, many animals move west and north. The northern Serengeti can be a focus later in the year, when Mara River crossings may happen—but no crossing or sighting can be guaranteed.
Allowing several nights in one area gives your guide the flexibility to respond to what is actually happening on the ground. It also lets you enjoy the wider wilderness, not only one anticipated event.
